What Is Barako Chugs & Mugs?

Just in case anyone is wondering what the heck Barako is, it is a strong coffee native to the Philippines. it is farmed right here in the province of the Philippines that I live in. It is my favorite coffee. So, what does “chugging” mean when it comes to rhythm guitar?

If you don't play guitar or listen to much metal, you might hear the word and wonder what the heck I'm talking about. 😂

Chugging is that tight, heavy, punchy rhythm you hear in rock and metal. A lot of the time, the guitarist uses palm muting to make the notes short and tight, giving you that CHUG-CHUG-CHUG sound.

For me, it's not about playing crazy lead guitar or shredding. I'm a rhythm guitar guy. I like the groove. I like that heavy, powerful sound that makes you feel the guitar as much as you hear it.

That's where Barako Chugs & Mugs comes from.
